The digital revolution essays The Digital Revolution is upon us. People, as a whole, have become so dependent on digital technology that they would not know how to survive without it. I went without a cell phone up until about two to three years ago. I thought that I didnt need a portable telephone. My thought process was that if I wanted to get a hold of someone I could or if someone wanted to get a hold of me bad enough that they could. Now I must admit, that was the way I use to think but now after having a cell phone for a couple of years I honestly do not know what I would do without it. If I leave my house without my phone now I have to turnaround and come back to get it. My phone is one of those cheap phones, not like those phones that have the internet, two-way, cameras, and video recorders. Ive even seen hand held palm pilots that are phones. Whatever happened to the days when cordless phones were revolutionary? I remember when my family bought its first cordless phone. We thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. When was the last time that I went to a library to do research? I can not honestly remember. My research is now done on the world wide web (pg. 169). The reason being, why go to a library and take all that time and look for books upon books and read a bunch of stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with what I am looking for when all I have to do is sit down in front of my computer, type a key word in a search engine and sort through all the hundreds or sometimes even thousands of hits all at the convenience of my home. I think that libraries are becoming a thing of the past and as the internet becomes more advanced and more reliable libraries will become extinct. They will be replaced with buildings filled only with computers. I personally believe that television is one of the worst inventions of mankind.
